We used in this design the Bulgarian cross 2 and 4 threads. You can choose your preferred option. A cross in the 4 threads provides a dense cover, but sewn longer and feel tighter. Сross Stitch Embroidery in 2 threads slightly translucent, and if you take crepe satin a background fabric shiny side up, your case will be fine sparkle.
